Is it for me?

If you are a person who like nature, hiking outdoors, a good lunch at the foot of great mountains accompanied by beautiful countryside, enjoying the company of people and like adventure, then definitely this hike is for yourself. It is not necessary to have an excellent physique for the Salkantay trek, only to have eager and determination to enjoy this wonderful adventure through the Andes.

What do i need to bring?

Backpack, sleeping bag, mattress (we will provide you with this), rain jacket, strong footwear (walking boots are recommended as they provide support to the ankle which reduces the risk of injury especially when trekking in the wet season (December - March). However it is important that your boots are comfortable and well worn-in and not brand new. Many people prefer to trek in tennis shoes but extra care should be taken. We do not recommend trekking in sandals. One complete change of clothing, sweater, jacket (something warm), water bottle and sterilizing tablets (Micropur are recommended and can be bought in local pharmacies in Cusco), flashlight and batteries, broad-brim or peaked cap, sunblock, insect repellent, toiletries and toilet paper, selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits etc, camera. You also have to bring your original passport with you on the trek.

Do i need travel insurance?

No, but it is highly recommended to have one, we can not recommend one but is the responsibility of every visitor to have insurance on a broad coverage that includes trip cancellation and medical emergency evacuation.

What is altitude sickeness?

The mountain sickness or altitude sickness is the body's response to the lack of oxygen at high altitude, is related to the rate of climb and altitude reached. Usually occurs from 2400 meters above sea level. Some of the symptoms presented are: dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting, physical exhaustion, lack of appetite and sleep disorders.
To avoid altitude sickness or altitude sickness is highly recommended acclimatization day or two depending on the person, enjoy light meal, go for a walk to speed acclimatization and finally as recommended by the agency, take a leaf coca tea which make you feel good and ready to start our adventure.

How difficult is the hike?

What is the best month to do it?

In the region of Cusco there are two temporal quite marked, the dry season and rainy. The dry months are from April to September, after the rainy season begins. Undoubtedly the best months to visit the Salkantay are the dry months. The months of October and November are still advisable to visit this hike, the months of December, January and February are a little more complicated by the constant rains however they are still months you can make this great hike.

Can i have vegetarian food?

How far do we walk each day?

Our visitors must walk 6-7 hours daily distributed from breakfast - lunch - dinner. The walking time per day will also depend on the attitude and willingness we have to make the sections.

What footwear is best for Salkantay?

You want to wear what fits you best & what works for you. No blisters! Most experts recommend hiking boots. Modern boots are remarkably light & comfortable. A pair of good boots & gaiters make you feel invincible in the mud. Some locals, by the way, cross the pass barefoot except for recycled-tire sandals.

Is it safe to travel in Peru?

Peru Travel has ceased to be dangerous. Long ago that our country has been receiving an increasing number of visitors from all over the world. While there are some dangerous places these are not a constant in our country. Especially cities like Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, these three cities are considered the least dangerous cities in our country as well as being the center of tourist attraction.

How do i reserve a space for the Salkantay Trek?

Visits to Machu Picchu are strictly limited by the government in order to maintain and preserve this amazing wonder.
Is allowed only tickets of admission to 2500 people per day to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu so you have to buy entrance tickets in advance, in many cases for the months of June, July, August and September is done with months in advance so it is highly recommended that the reservation of tickets is made with 4-5 months in advance to avoid problems.

The sterilizing tablets can be bought in most pharmacies in Cusco. With these tablets you have to wait between 30 and 40 minutes before drinking. Bottled mineral water can also be taken from Cusco or bought at Mollepata or Santa Teresa.
